Reprisal Season 1 Episode 7: 25 or 6 to 4 Recap

Reprisal S1E7 Johnson, Ethan, Matty & Meredith

In episode 7, the 3 River Phoenixes help Meredith recover from her ordeal with the Ghouls and Burt begins to make the rounds of the Brawlers’ operations to check in with everyone. Joel becomes more involved in the war and has a confrontation with Burt. We’re shown Meredith’s origin story and we gain insight into several other characters.

Katherine and the Monster Ring make their final preparations, then visit the Bang-A-Rang 707’s vault. Molly adds another role or 2 to her resume.

Recap

We begin with some truth. Sometime in the past, probably about 15 years ago, maybe 20, Queenie, Burt and a blue-haired dancer named Irma pull up outside of a house that Irma designates as “the one”. Queenie and Burt go to the porch, where the man of the house is lounging on a couch. They ignore him because they’re looking for the lady of the house, Bear, who beat up Irma last night. Once Bear comes to the door, she admits to the beating, but justifies it with the fact that Irma was tramping around with her husband.

Reprisal Season 1 Episode 6: For Love of the Archipelago Recap

Reprisal S1Ep6 Joel and Matty Argue

In this episode, the owls go to war and Meredith becomes a mouse. Queenie brings Burt back into the fold, where he does exactly what Joel has always known he’d do. Joel sends Lyla to safety with Rita, but not before she meets Katherine at Bash’s house. Katherine also stages a meeting with the Phoenixes. Mixed messages and miscommunications abound.

We learn once and for all that Reprisal takes place in an alternate universe, in which many of the male characters fought in the Archipelago War and are still suffering from PTSD. Molly was a field nurse in the war and also saw things that left her traumatized. She’s probably not the only woman on the show who was affected by the War. Virtually every character has been affected by some war, whether it’s the Archipelago War or Burt’s gang wars or the unnamed, continuous wars that constitute domestic violence. Growing up surrounded by the Brawlers or the Ghouls equals growing up on the edge of a battlefield.

Roswell, New Mexico Season 2 Episode 4: What If God Was One of Us? Recap

Roswell, New Mexico S2E3 Michael & Alex

This week on Roswell, New Mexico, Isobel uses her powers to help Rosa and Arturo reconnect. Alex and Michael’s investigation into the aftermath of the 1947 crash brings them to the Long ranch, where they run into a young relative of Wyatt’s, Forest, who shares the Long family’s legends about that time period. Kyle helps Liz acquire new equipment from the hospital, then wonders if he made the right decision. Cam confronts Jesse about her sister, Charlie, and he’s surprisingly open with her. This may not be as helpful as it you’d think.

I have a theory of my own about Jesse’s new state of mind.

But before I share it, Isobel needs to work a miracle.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Episode 10- Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2 Recap and Season 1 Analysis

Star Trek Picard S1E10 Jean Luc Picard

Et in Arcadia, Part 2, is the finale episode for season 1 of Star Trek: Picard and wow, does it go for the big, unprecedented finish. This is really about three episodes worth of plot crammed into 1 hour. The giant killer orchids make their return, along with Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and another surprise guest. The story moves between space, Synthville, the Artifact and La Sirena as the battle to stop the synths from destroying organic life unfolds. Several characters make unexpected alliances and sacrifices.

Let’s go save the galaxy.

Recap

The Artifact is now sitting in water. Was it low tide in episode 9?

Narek sneaks in unnoticed. Elnor and Seven are taking a break and talking philosophy. He wonders if the xBs are better off dead since they’re hated, unwanted and have no home. Seven asks if he thinks she’s also better off dead, since she’s also an xB with no home and no place she belongs. Maybe she should end it all? Elnor doesn’t think she should die, because he’d miss her.

Roswell, New Mexico Season 2 Episode 3: Good Mother Recap

Roswell, New Mexico S2E3 Lily Cowles as Isobel Evans

It’s Ladies Night on episode 3 of Roswell, New Mexico and the moms, aliens, and formerly dead all come out for it. Good Mother sees the return of Cam, Max’s police partner from season 1, and Mimi DeLuca, Maria’s missing mom. We also find out what happened to Michael’s mom on the night of the alien spaceship crash in 1947- she got to meet Jason Behr, Max from the original Roswell series, OMG!

Not to be outdone, current Max (Nathan Dean Parsons) finds a way to make himself useful again when Isobel gets into trouble. Also thanks to Max, Maria is finally, finally brought into the alien loop. It’s a good week for him, partly since he spends most of his time in the outfit Isobel wants to remember him in- a relaxed version of the tuxedo from her fundraiser the night they captured Noah.

Roswell, New Mexico Season 2 Episode 2: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space Recap

Roswell, New Mexico S2E2 Isobel & Ann Evans Find Their Warrior Women

It’s a good day in Roswell to find your inner warrior Goddess, but a bad day for avoiding the alien zombie ghost of Max Evans or feeling nostalgic about family ties or the past in general. The best move for the whole gang is to move forward in their endeavors, even if moving forward also includes a little bit of moving backwards.

This week: after spending the day with her mother, Isobel makes a decision about her alien baby; Michael makes an attempt to get back into Maria’s good graces; Maria searches for her missing mother; Jesse Manes comes out of his medically induced coma with his sense of superiority intact; Liz tries a new experiment, which she hopes will help Max; and Rosa tries to cope with the racism and anger the rest of the town has been brewing for 11 years over the death of the 2 white girls in the car she was supposedly driving.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Episode 8- Broken Pieces Recap

Star Trek Picard S1E8 Rios, Raffi & Picard

In episode 8, we learn more about the mission of the Zhat Vash, Agnes wakes up from her coma and Picard and Soji return to La Sirena. Rios discovers that he has a connection to Soji, while Seven arrives on the Artifact to help Elnor and the xBs.

In this episode, we also discover that Rios is heavily influenced by the Danish philosopher Søren Kirkegaard. I read Nietzche to recap Netflix’s Dark. I guess I’ll be exploring Kierkegaard for Picard. If you haven’t seen Dark, go watch it while you’re self-quarantined for the coronavirus and wondering how your life came to this!

Recap

The episode begins with images of the nebula that also appeared in Picard’s dream from the pilot. In this dream, Picard drank tea and played poker with Data while Bing Crosby sang Blue Skies. Data held 5 queens of hearts in his hand. Then Mars exploded. Every one of these things has become important in some way, which I’ll go over later. Now we discover the nebula is the home of the Admonition, the warning about synthetic life which gives the Zhat Vash its mission.

Commodore Oh showed a version of the Admonitiion to Agnes back on Earth in order to recruit her as a spy. In Broken Pieces, Oh brings her Zhat Vash recruits directly to the source so they can experience the undiluted message.

Roswell, New Mexico Season 2 Episode 1: Stay (I Missed You) Recap

Roswell, New Mexico S2E1 Ann Evans (Claudia Black) & Isobel Evans (Lily Cowles) at Noah's Funeral
Ann Evans (Claudia Black) & Isobel Evans (Lily Cowles) at Noah’s Funeral

There are alien zombie ghosts running around Roswell, New Mexico in season 2 and it’s glorious. Rosa (Amber Midthunder) is alive and not an alien zombie ghost, though she may develop similarities to one of those things if this show follows its predecessor. She and Isobel are both being haunted by Noah, but apparently for very different reasons.

Welcome to season 2 of the CW’s Roswell, New Mexico, where the alien fun is ramping up to epic proportions.

Recap

Rosa is channeling Max’s memories of Noah and combining them with her own memories of Noah’s possession of Isobel, then turning them into nightmares. A worried Liz sends Rosa to now big brother Kyle to have her head examined. He discovers that Max healed all of Rosa’s afflictions. Her injuries from the accident are gone and she shows no signs of ever having done drugs.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Episode 7: Nepenthe Recap

Star Trek Picard S1E7 Picard & Soji on Nepenthe

In episode 7, Jean Luc and Soji arrive on the planet Nepenthe seeking refuge with old Next Generation friends Will Riker and Deanna Troi, who now live there with their teen daughter. Elnor, Hugh and the xBs face Narissa’s wrath on the Artifact, while La Sirena is stuck in the cube’s tractor beam. Once the ship gets free, Narek follows them in a small ship. On La Sirena, Agnes tries to cope with the magnitude of her betrayals, with the help of Raffi, Chris and the EMH.

Nepenthe has two meanings: It is referred to in Homer’s Odyssey as a potion which induces forgetfulness of pain and sorrow, such as opium or a medicinal herb like borage. The second meaning is more interesting and just as pertinent to our story.

Nepenthes is a genus of carnivorous plants, the tropical pitcher plants, which act as a literal honey trap, using bright colors, an attractive smell and sugary nectar to lure prey to the edge of their tube shaped trap. The slippery digestive fluids on the lips and inside of the plant then stop the prey from escaping, acting like quicksand so that the harder the prey fights to escape, the further entrapped it becomes.

Both senses of Nepenthe are being used on Star Trek: Picard this season.

Nepenthe(s) as a honey trap is what Narek did to Soji all season and, on a smaller scale, Seven did to Bejayzl in episode 5. In the past, Bejayzl used herself as a honey trap on Seven, so Seven was only returning the favor. Will someone return the favor for Narek?

Nepenthe as a balm for your pain is Counselor Troi and Auntie Raffi’s department, depending on whether you want to go the mellow or intense route. Do you want to try pizza, wine and conversation with old friends or cake, snakeweed and casual sex with people you’ve recently met? Or maybe you’re the type who goes for adrenaline rush-inducing sword fights on an empty stomach with your archenemy. On a Borg cube.

No judgement here. Everybody’s just trying to survive. Not that I condone murder as stress relief, of course.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 Episode 6-The Impossible Box Recap

mv5bowezmwi1zditmmmxzs00nwfilwjjmdctmjjlntzhnji1mwywxkeyxkfqcgdeqxvymdk0odi3oa4040._v1_

In episode 6 of Star Trek: Picard the separate storylines finally meet, as the La Sirena reaches the Artifact, Soji figures out her true nature with a little help from her favorite Romulan spy and Jean Luc is reunited with Hugh and a few dozen of his former Borg compatriots. As you might expect, none of this goes smoothly. In fact, the themes of the week are emotional breakdown in the face of trauma, trust vs coercion vs betrayal, family vs fellow hostages, recovery vs repression vs mental illness and the general sense that we don’t control as much of our lives as we wish we did, even our own feelings and actions.

Recap

We begin with a dream instead of a flashback, or maybe a flashback disguised as a dream. The dream belongs to Soji, so it’s her creative brain working to make sense of her world, much as ours do and eventually Data’s did.

In Soji’s dream, there may also be elements of inserted memory that belong to someone else. Narek is counting on it. The Alex Kurtzman version of Star Trek is taking more than a few cues from Blade Runner 2049.
