Fathom Events filmed Disney’s hit Broadway musical Newsies last September during its Los Angeles tour stop. The show will be screened in movie theaters across the country on three different dates, giving fans multiple chances to see their favorite show. Screenings will be held on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 PM, Saturday, February 18 at 12:55 PM, and Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 PM. All times are local.

Newsies was filmed on September 11, 2016 at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, CA, with a cast that combined members of the original Broadway cast and the tour cast. Original Broadway cast members who returned for the filming are Jeremy Jordan (Jack Kelly), Kara Lindsay (Katherine), Ben Fankhauser (Davey) and Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Crutchie). Cast members from the tour include Steve Blanchard (Joseph Pulitzer), Aisha de Haas (Medda Larkin), and Ethan Steiner (Les). The ensemble is packed with Broadway and North American Tour veterans, filling the stage with “newsies.”

Set in New York City at the turn of the century and based on a true story, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged “newsies,” who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies newsies from across the city to strike and take a stand for what’s right.

The score, by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, includes the songs “Santa Fe,” “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” “King of New York” and “Once and for All.” The book was written by Harvey Fierstein, who recently adapted Hairspray for TV and played Edna Turnblad in Hairspray Live!.

Tickets and theater locations are available at the Fathom Events website.

  1. I love Newsies and still waiting to have the Broadway soundtrack. My favorite song is “Seize the Day”. The dancing is mind-blowing and is part of why I love Newsies. The storyline is incredible especially considering it is based off of a true story. I love the relationship the Newsies have for each other especially the one between Jack Kelly and Crutchie
