They Still Can’t Stop the Beat

The Network Will Show the Entire Musical Again the Day After Christmas

BroadwayWorld.com is reporting that NBC will reshow Hairspray Live! on Monday, December 26th, at 8:00 PM ET. If you missed the original, live airing on December 7th, this is your chance to watch it on the big screen. In the meantime, you can still watch the full musical and the preshow, Countdown to Hairspray Live!, on Youtube and on NBC’s website.

Disclaimer: BroadwayWorld is currently the only site with this story. Even NBC isn’t saying yet when they’re repeating Hairspray Live! They’ve repeated every one of the previous musicals at some point in December, so I’ve been watching for it to be scheduled. I’ll keep an eye out to see if the date changes. 12/11/16: Other sites, including NBC, are now showing the reprise date of 12/26 at 8:00PM ET.

Countdown to Hairspray Live! Watch the Full PreShow Now with Kristin Chenoweth, Sean Hayes and Darren Criss

The full Countdown show is up on Youtube! My local station opted to show the news instead of the preshow, so I’m seeing this for the first time now, too, except for the parts that were on Facebook. Here it is, for everyone who missed it.

Hairspray Live! Watch the Full Show Now!

NBC has put the entire show up on Youtube in a single video, so everyone can watch at their own convenience on whatever device they please. Here it is. Enjoy! (And then take our POLL and read our REVIEW.)

The official versions have been removed. This Youtube isn’t ideal, but it’s the best one available right now. Let me know in the comments if it’s removed too.

It’s only available for rent or purchase now, sorry.

Hairspray Live! The Official Song Performance Videos Are Up!

The songs and other official videos can be found on the Hairspray Live! Youtube channel, or on NBC’s Youtube channel. We’ve embedded some of them below (above- It Takes Two). You can take our poll and tell us what you thought of the musical HERE.

ETA: Youtube has taken almost everything down from Hairspray Live! I’ve replaced the live videos with songs from the soundtrack so that there’s something here. The copyright owners really, really want to sell you the video.

Did you love it? Hate it? Vote, then tell us why in the comments.

We’ll have a full review up later. For now, let’s just say we loved it! It’s one of our favorite musicals, so it’s hard to go wrong with this show. This production did an exceptional job. It wasn’t perfect, but that’s part of being live. Everyone has different tastes, though, so let us know what you thought below.

Greg Berlanti to Remake Little Shop of Horrors Film

Berlanti Should Continue His Streak of Casting Glee Alumni, and Cast Darren Criss and Lea Michele as Seymour and Audrey

Deadline reports that Warner Bros is developing a film remake of the classic musical Little Shop of Horrors with Greg Berlanti, producer of superhero shows on The CW, directing, Marc Platt (La La Land) producing, and a script by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying).

Little Shop of Horrors was originally a 1960 B movie cult film directed by Roger Corman. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman turned it into an Off-Off-Broadway rock musical in 1982. It eventually made its way to Off-Broadway, where it ran for 5 years, then to movie theaters in 1986. Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene starred in the 1986 film as Seymour and Audrey.

After the cut, my take on the news, and video of Darren Criss and Lea Michele singing Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors.

Official Dates for the New Frozen Musical’s Pre-Broadway Run Announced

frozenfamilyheader

BroadwayWorld.com reports that Frozen the Musical will play at the Buell Theatre in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for a 6 week run from August 17 through October 1, 2017. Tickets are already on sale as part of the theater’s Broadway subscription series. Subscribers will be able to order extra tickets December 12th at 10:00 AM. Single tickets won’t be on sale until Spring 2017. Anyone interested in receiving alerts about ticket sales can sign up at Denvercenter.org/Frozen.

From the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Blog:

This Broadway-bound Frozen, a full-length stage work told in two acts, is the first and only incarnation of the tale that expands upon and deepens its indelible plot and themes through new songs and story material from the film’s creators.  Like the Disney Theatrical Broadway musicals that have come before it, it is a full evening of theatre and is expected to run 2 1/2 hours.

Written by a trio of Oscar-winners, Frozen features music and lyrics by the creators of the film score Kristen Anderson-Lopez (In Transit, Up Here) and EGOT-winner Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon, Up Here) and a book by Jennifer Lee (Wreck-It Ralph), the film’s screenwriter and director (with Chris Buck). Frozen won 2014 Oscars for Best Song (“Let It Go”) and Best Animated Feature.

Moana Review: Female Bonding With An Unnecessary Male (Spoilers)

I saw Moana on its opening night! Very exciting, and for some reason there was practically no one in the theater. Night before Thanksgiving, I suppose?

Overall, I liked it. I found it emotionally moving, and the spiritual tone was enchanting to me. It is beautifully animated, and the music is absolutely beautiful (not surprising to me, as Lin Manuel-Miranda, writer and original star of Hamilton, cowrote the music). I found the messages and themes meaningful. There were a few times when I was almost brought to tears. That said, I do have some major complaints, most of which regard Maui, which I’m trying not to let color my entire interpretation of the movie.

Spoilers below! (And an unintentionally long review.)

Frozen Broadway Musical Dream Cast Part 3: Kristoff and The Duke

Time for the next round of Frozen dream cast choices! Why, you may ask, is there a video of Aaron Tveit and Gavin Creel singing a song from Rent at the top of a post about Frozen? Well, that’s a very good question. Both metawitches have kind of an obsession with this video, and since these boys are alternate choices for 2 dream cast roles, it seemed like the perfect time to pull it out. Where better to put it than right at the top? (I admit, I’ll likely pull it out at the slightest provocation. Be prepared. Or afraid.)

Frozen Broadway Musical Dream Cast Part 2: Elsa and Anna

Last week, in part 1, we lobbied for Santino Fontana to reprise the role Hans in the Broadway-bound Frozen musical. Today we’ll look at choices for Elsa and Anna.
