Supergirl Season 2 Episode 14: Homecoming Recap

Supergirl and Mon El spent the night together, leaving us with no doubt that Kara has been devirginized by the show. This doesn’t seem to have been her first time in-universe, because you’d think a romantic like Kara would make a bigger deal of it, but possibly it’s the first time she didn’t have to hold very, very still.

Mon El wakes up alone in Kara’s bed and wonders for a moment if he did something wrong, but then his natural cocky optimism returns, and he wonders if it was that good? As he gets up and moves around the apartment, we learn from the TV news that it must’ve been that good, maybe even better. Kara’s already prevented 5 armed robberies, taken over for a tugboat working in the harbor and delivered puppies! Mon El turned her world up to 11! Mon El is a hero! All of Kara’s early morning heroing happened because of him! You don’t deliver puppies for anything less than spectacular.

Santa Clarita Diet Season 1 Episode 7: Strange or Just Inconsiderate? Recap

In this episode of “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” the answer is: Dan! And he overstays his welcome, just as he did in life. Some people just can’t change, no matter what life, or death, throws at them.

Joel and Sheila are working hard to adapt, though. Their quick thinking skills are coming along nicely. After killing Dan with a shovel at the end of episode 6, Joel throws his body over the back garden wall into his own yard. Unfortunately, Sheila is having coffee and conversation with Alondra in the kitchen at that moment, in full view of the yard and wall. Fortunately, Alondra’s back is to the wall, so Sheila is able to cover for her surprise with some passionate sharing about kites and canning, then get Alondra out of the house. It really is a b*tch when the peaches go bad before you get to them.

Santa Clarita Diet Season 1 Episode 6: Attention to Detail Recap

Sheila and Joel have done the thing that criminals always do, and they really need to learn not to do, if they’re going to become serial killers: returned to the scene of the crime. They’re still having the “did she or didn’t she” debate about Loki. When you’re married, some disagreements are just never-ending.

Sheila thinks she didn’t accidentally bite Loki, because she didn’t get that satisfying tingle that she gets when she draws blood for a kill. In her vagina. Joel tries not to be disturbed by his wife’s new murder kink, but the compromises that he’s making for the marriage are adding up quickly. Even with frequent, adventurous sex, he’s having trouble keeping up with the rapid fire changes and new demands. He blames himself for letting Loki escape. Sheila reassures Joel that she loves him for who he is, not who he thinks he should be. And Loki has clearly skipped town.

Santa Clarita Diet Season 1 Episode 5: Man Eat Man Recap

Today seems like a good day to get back to recapping the show about sentient, flesh-eating, undead realtors who live in the suburbs, doesn’t it? Between sweeps and the  crimes ethics violations antics of the current resident of the White House*, it’s been hard to find time for this show. Let’s see if they’ve solved their food shortage and health care issues yet. Those rare chronic illnesses that insurance won’t cover and doctors dismiss can be devastating for families in so many ways.

Abby enjoyed her ride on Rick’s bike in the last episode so much that she’s decided to try to fix up her dad’s old high school motorcycle. She finds it in the family storage unit, along with the body of the week in the freezer. Oops. Parenting mistake #212. You have to do a certain amount of baby-proofing, no matter how old your kids are.

Nashville Season 5 Episode 9: If Tomorrow Never Comes Recap

Okay, as the narrator says at the beginning of Jane the Virgin every week, let’s do this thing! If Jane and her telenovela narrator can get through their tough times, so can we! Everybody grab the hand of the person next to you, your favorite beverage for hydration, and a box of tissues.

Last episode, Rayna was held hostage, in a very triggery scene, which she escaped thanks to her own quick thinking. But, then a truck collided with the police car she was riding home in, smashing directly into the side of the car that Rayna was sitting in, as she was talking to Deacon on the phone. We join her again as she’s being rushed into the hospital with serious injuries. She’s in bad shape.

When Deacon arrives, a nurse tells him that Rayna has a shattered pelvis and hip, but is on morphine, so she’s resting comfortably. HA! From my experience, even morphine isn’t going to make that kind of trauma “comfortable,” but whatever. TV medicine. Rayna doesn’t appear to have blood in her brain, and their top ortho is coming in to do Rayna’s surgery.

Riverdale Season 1 Chapter Five: Heart of Darkness Recap

This week, we go full on Gothic, with Cheryl Blossom as our Gothic Heroine. Cheryl and her family have lived for generations in their spooky mansion, known as Thornhill, hidden behind imposing gates, an overgrown garden, and its own graveyard. Nobody goes near the place who doesn’t have to.

No wonder Cheryl is having a nightmare as the episode begins, between the creepy atmosphere she’s been raised in, and the fact that she’s sleeping in Jason’s bed again, while she works on his eulogy. She dreams of herself in a flowing red gown, surrounded by candles, opening Jason’s casket (which is in her living room), and discovering that he’s clawed his way out of it. She’s startled awake by zombie Jason appearing behind her. Not sure what’s worse, him, or her mother lurking in the bedroom door. Mama Blossom doesn’t offer any comfort to her daughter, just criticism and humiliation. Mrs Blossom informs Cheryl that she won’t be speaking at the funeral.

The 100 Season 4 Episode 4: A Lie Guarded Recap

After I threatened to never speak of Jasper again in last week’s recap, he earned his keep this week, starting with the screen cap above. Yep, Jaha finally got floated. While I’m starting to feel like I need to post a Talking Dead-style “Who Did We Lose This Week and How?” montage every February and May, unfortunately Jaha wasn’t one of this week’s losses. He’s this series’ archvillain/cockroach, that guy they can never quite get rid of, and always want to find a way to redeem, because they see themselves in him. Or Isaiah Washington has an excellent contract lawyer whom the rest of the cast should hire immediately.

Instead, we lost another series-long recurring character this week, and the loss was barely acknowledged. I’ll look at that in more detail after the episode summary.

Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 Episode 12: Camelot/3000 Recap

Is sweeps month over yet? I love all of the action, but the death and destruction get a bit intense by the end of the month. Thank goodness we have Supergirl and Legends to lighten things up a bit. Remember, I said a bit. Supergirl was the designated hitter for humor this week. Legends is still coping with an evil ex Time Master.

It’s the year 3000, and we’re in Detroit. The local economy has improved in the last thousand years, if the skyline is anything to go by. I now have a Jonas Brothers song stuck in my head. Soon the Legends will be going to the Year 3000, as well, because Rip is already there, creating mischief. Rip approaches Dr Mid-Nite in his future lab. He wants the fragment of the Spear of Destiny that he left with Dr Mid-Nite, explaining to Mid-Nite that he’s taking it to the Vanishing Point. Mid-Nite points out that Rip said the Time Masters couldn’t be trusted. Boy, that turned out to be even more true than Rip knew. Rip shoots Mid-Nite and decides to retrieve the spear fragment the hard way. He assumes that means removing it from inside Mid-Nite’s body, since the doctor was researching cybernetic implants. Rip is also interested in Mid-Nite’s biomorphic mind control technology.

Agents of SHIELD Season 4 Episode 15: Self Control Recap

Wow! This was one of the best episodes of the entire series. Such a roller coaster ride of plot and emotion. It was well-titled, with Self Control, in the sense of self-rule, being the theme of the night. Who was still in control of their very self, and who had been replaced by an LMD against their will? Who was really in charge of the submarine and the orders coming out of it? Sometimes humans are so easy to fool. Which humans could control their emotions and their bodies long enough to beat the LMDs?

The episode starts with the two sneak peaks that were released last week. Aida’s playing classic rock for her captives in order to increase their dopamine levels. She’s chosen one of Ivanov’s favorites, since he’s about to undergo a terrifying procedure involving a saw and him becoming many things.

Fitz and Simmons are panicking over the LMDs taking over the base. They’re trying to figure out a plan when the LMDs approach them for advice about Ivanov’s weapons capabilities. They intend to bring all of the inhumans to HQ, ostensibly to protect them, but really to kill them. They have a fleet of Daisybots in the basement waiting to be activated, then they’ll send them all out to greet the inhumans personally and execute each one.

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 13: Mr. & Mrs. Mxyzptlk Recap

We pick up right where we left off last week, with Mr Mxyzptlk proposing marriage to Kara, professing his undying love, and then throwing out one liners at the speed of light. He sings a snippet of A Whole New World, from Disney’s Aladdin, which is hilarious because the actor, Peter Gadiot, played the genie on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Mon El interrupts Mxy’s monologue, but is quickly dispensed with. After a few well-placed insults, he’s sent off to the DEO in his underwear. I don’t think being without his clothes bothers Mon El in general as much as Mxyzptlk thinks it should.

With Mon El taken care of, Mxyzptlk continues his campaign to get Kara to accept his proposal, while also answering her questions as she tries to figure out what the heck is going on. Somewhere in the midst of wedding dresses, violin serenades, flowers, and candles, he lists the rules of engagement: He’s all-seeing and all-powerful, but he can’t make her marry him, fall in love with him, stop her from killing herself, or make her drink orange juice. Mxy vows to woo her until she falls in love with him, since he’s chosen her to be his mate. With that, he snaps his fingers and disappears again.
