Riverdale Season 1 Chapter Three: Body Double Recap

rvd103betcher

We are all very INTENSE this week on Riverdale as secrets are revealed. Not who the killer is, of course, don’t be ridiculous. I didn’t even entertain the idea that Cheryl was confessing to the murder at the end of Chapter Two. No, we’re getting deeper into the secrets and obsessions of this supposedly innocent small town.

We begin with Cheryl expanding on her confession. She loved Jason more than she loves herself. She lied in her original statement to the police. [I’m sure we are all shocked to hear this.] She hasn’t seen Jason since July 4th. The Sheriff tells her that Jason died July 11th. Cheryl explains that Jason wanted to leave Riverdale in a way that would allow him to start over without being looked for. They planned to use the drowning story that Cheryl gave the police. Jason was supposed check in with Cheryl within a month, but she never heard from him. She doesn’t explain why Jason wanted to fake his death and leave town. The Sheriff effectively shuts her down by being accusatory, suggesting that she’s lying now and killed Jason herself, and that their plan was cruel. Then Cheryl’s parents show up to take her home, at which point I realized they were still in the school and this questioning was extremely unethical.

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 12: Luthors Recap

spg212jonnkarawinn

This week is all about the rivalries, on camera and off, between friends, lovers, and family. Lillian Luthor, mommy from hell, set up a rivalry between Lex and Lena from the moment they met that reflected her rivalries with both her own husband and Lena’s mother, and she’s still all about competition. The Supergirl crowd’s rivalries are much more accidental or unconscious, but they are still there. James, in particular, needs to take a good look at his motivations. Lex was his rival for Clarke’s affections, and now Lena is his rival for Kara’s. That’s enough to make James dismissive of the idea that Lena could be any different from the rest of her family.

We open on Lillian teaching Lex Luthor the finer points of chess. Lionel Luthor brings 4 year old Lena into the room, having just adopted her. Llillian makes noises about not having been completely on board with the adoption, but comes around when she sees Lex and Lena interact. Nothing like a little sibling rivalry to sharpen the competitive instinct.

Nashville Season 5 Episode 7: Hurricane Recap

nvl507raynadeac

Rayna spends this week spreading her agitation around, as dredging up her past increases her anxiety levels. Deacon is her rock and target. Scarlett and Gunnar aren’t as solid in their relationship, so Scarlett’s insecurities and issues are enough to drive a deeper wedge between them. She, as always, finds a way to blame this on Gunnar. Maddie and Daphne continue to repair their bond and raise themselves.

The episode begins with Deacon writing on his own. Rayna arrives home and asks what the song is about. Deacon tells her it’s about their first kiss, coming off stage at the Exit Inn. Rayna tells him that no, their first kiss was in his car after a party. He was with Samantha Beasley/Beeswax after the Exit Inn show. Rayna is admirably calm and keeps her sense of humor. Deacon realizes that he was, indeed, writing about the wrong kiss. Let’s keep that song in reserve as a deep cut.

Santa Clarita Diet Season 1 Episode 3: We Can Kill People Recap

scd103plasticwrap

This episode picks up the morning after episode 2. Sheila proves that she’s the best mombie in town by worrying about how her new undead status is affecting Abby’s mental health. Joel is more concerned with the need to kill someone so that Sheila can eat, but he’s still insensitively consuming an omelet for breakfast in front of her. She reminds him that parenthood is everyday, and she hasn’t eaten in two days.

Abby breezes through on her way to school and Starbucks. Sheila and Joel decide to implement regular family dinner nights so that they can check in with Abby every evening. They tell Abby that Sheila will be eating poultry and beef from now on. Abby is not thrilled that her parents want to keep a closer eye on her.

Sheila and Joel get down to the business of planning their first murder as a couple. The ideal candidate is a young Hitler, someone evil and unattached. They need to get organized.

The 100 Season 4 Episode 2: Heavy Lies the Crown Recap

hu402bribel

This week on The 100, everyone learns, again, how difficult leadership is, how much the grounders hate Skaikru, and how uncertain their long term survival is.

We start nine days previously, when ALIE still had control of everyone in the City of Light. She’s instructed a young man named Ilian to kill his family members one by one until his mother takes the chip. When Clarke shuts down ALIE, Ilian’s mother is dying, and tells him to avenge her death. He’s the only one in his family left alive.

Back to the present day, Abby and Kane are enjoying the pleasant accommodations in Polis and finally sharing a bed. 😌 Abby feels a little guilty about Clarke’s father, but Kane tells her that Jake’s part of who she is. He sends her off to help King Roan.

Agents of Shield Season 4 Episode 13: Boom Recap

aos413daisy

Oh look, now that we have a shiny new Superior, Agents of Shield has Dropped a Fridge on Ellen Nadeer. No need to pay that actress any more, or give the character an actual storyline to write her off. Just, BOOM, disposable female character. And a promotion for the less interesting white male character played by John Piper Ferguson. We definitely haven’t explored enhanced men who play with fire before. Not even ones who are  inhuman and turn on their own kind to work for the Watchdogs. cough Hellfire cough

Radciffe is emerging from a visit to Melinda May’s virtual prison world. He’s thrilled that it’s so endless and realistic. It’s keeping May happy and occupied, which meets Radcliffe’s twisted moral standards.

Ivanov has spent the night reading the Darkhold. He doesn’t seem to have been affected by it, which gives us a sense of how dark his mind was already. The Darkhold told Ivanov that Radcliffe was the one who could make his dreams come true. They will wipe out the inhumans together. First, they need an inhuman to dangle in front of SHIELD. Radcliffe has created purified terigenesis crystals that are harmless to regular humans but still stimulate terrigenesis in inhumans.
