Darren Criss Joins Supergirl/Flash Musical Crossover as the Music Meister

blaineseb Ha! I knew Berlanti and Kreisberg couldn’t stay away from Darren Criss forever. The producers of the four DC ‘verse shows on The CW have an affinity for casting Glee alumni (Melissa Benoist, Grant Gustin) and Michigan State/Starkid alumni as well (Carlos Valdes, Andy Mientus). Darren is the pinnacle of that trend, fitting both groups.

The Flash and Supergirl, starring Gustin and Benoist, are doing a musical crossover which will air Monday, March 20 and Tuesday, March 21. Most of the crossover will be on The Flash. Supergirl will probably get just enough to explain her presence in Central City, the way she did during the December crossover that incorporated all four Berlantiverse shows.

Winn/Jeremy Jordan will be crossing over with Kara/Melissa Benoist. Dr Stein/Victor Garber and Malcom Merlyn/John Barrowman will also be pulled in from other parts of the Berlantiverse.

No Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 5: No Regrets Recap

not105xaveviehijinks

Evie and Xavier begin the episode by crossing “shopping cart slingshot” off of Evie’s apocalyst, which is something you most definitely shouldn’t try at home. Evie ends up face first in beach sand, which, why?? At least end up in the water. This is one list item that didn’t look worth it to me.

Back home, Evie and Xavier look through their lists and make suggestions for their next adventure. Evie suggests #36) sleeping in a blanket fort. Her mother never let her as a child, because her mom was afraid she’d suffocate. That explains a lot. Xavier’s corresponding item is #544) have sex in a blanket fort. Because of course it is.

But first, Xavier wants to go back to Evie’s #17, which she keeps skipping over: Get Francis “Fern” Fernberger’s forgiveness. If Evie works on that one, he’ll do one of his hard ones. He’s originally thinking of #1259) Tell Evie how I really feel. Screw non-monogamy. But Evie’s phone blows up with notifications from multiple dating sites, so Xavier makes a quick switch to #88) Return Wes Hofley’s baseball card.

No Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 4: No Holds Barred Recap

not104xavevie

We start this week with Xavier’s apocalyst item #115)Try Bone Marrow. Evie refuses to even try, and not because she’s a vegetarian. Xavier equates the marrow to his philosophy of life. As in, suck the marrow out of it. We could probably end the episode here.

But, we don’t, of course, because even a low rated show has ad time to sell, and Joshua Sasse hasn’t taken his clothes off in a while. Whoops, there goes his hot coffee, down his front and toward his “nether regions.” Luckily, he and Evie are right next to a large public fountain, so Xavier strips and jumps in. Evie’s much more worried about the public scene Xavier is making than about the 3rd degree burns he’s trying to avoid. Personally, she’s giving me flashbacks to my mother-in-law, who was also always very worried about “what the neighbors would think.” Someday Evie will happily join the ranks of old ladies who enforce middle class social norms with an iron fist and a velvet glove. For now, Xavier asks if anyone in the crowd is bothered by him being mostly naked in the fountain, and everyone is happy with the situation. I’m quite okay with it myself. He reminds Evie that she’s going to miss out on a lot in life if she never pushes her boundaries.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 2 Episode 11: Josh Is the Man of My Dreams, Right? Recap

ceg211bexnatdance

Much to Dr Akopian’s dismay, Rebecca and Josh are still engaaaged. But, the devil winds are a-blowin’ into town and they bring all manner of strange thoughts with them. Well, I don’t think Karen’s thoughts actually got any stranger. Just even more inappropriately public.

I can’t help but feel like Rebecca’s taken a huge step backward this week, while Paula took a couple of steps forward. Rebecca ignores every warning sign the universe and her psyche send her, to the point where we get a brief reprise of You Stupid Bitch. That song is the lowest of low points for Rebecca, and it’s incredibly painful to hear even one line of it. Paula, on the other hand, learns some things from Rebecca and Daryl, and makes some positive changes in her own life.

It’s windy in West Covina, this week. Welcome to the desert, kids. Rebecca’s seen weather before, though. She’s all about her ring, which is a family heirloom, but it was bought back for her by Josh and he put it on her finger and proposed and she said yes OMG!!! High pitched SQUUEEAAALL!!

SyFy’s The Expanse Expanded and Season 2 Sneak Peak: Watch Here [VIDEO]

The Expanse Season 2 Begins February 1st

expanses2crew

SyFy’s epic space series The Expanse, based on the series of novels by my fellow New Mexican(s) James S A Corey,* returns on Wednesday, February 1st at 10:00 PM ET/ 9:00 PM CT. Season 1 premiered last year to generally favorable reviews. I loved the first season, though it was so rich and complex that I’m not sure how anyone who hadn’t read the first few books followed the first few episodes, or understood what the Belters were saying.** I had to stop the show frequently to interpret for my husband. A deeply drawn alternate universe with a well-thought out show bible is like crack for me, especially when a series based on books doesn’t rigidly adhere to them. Season 1 was like an appetizer, getting the key players on the board and giving us a sense of the game. (Yes, I mixed that metaphor. I am but a mere blogger, not a professional. I’ll mix metaphors if I want.) Season 1 is available on Amazon Prime to rewatch/check out for the first time. SyFy also has a Netflix deal globally.

Crazyhead Season 1 Episode 6: Beaver with a Chainsaw

crazyheads1ep6demonparty

It’s party time! Raquel’s invite got lost in the mail, but Callum will surely find a way to make sure she attends his big demon coming out party.

I don’t know if I’ve said how much I love the opening of this show. The theme song (The Kill of the Night, by Gin Wigmore), and the entire soundtrack to the series, are fantastic. As is the neon and skulls 80s junkyard look that ends in the title card. It sets the perfect mood for a sarcastic and silly, but smart, comedy-horror show about normal young women who find themselves demon-hunting and more, with little guidance but the internet. Modern, but also a little bit of a throwback to historical roots, with DIY heroes who don’t come from some grand tradition that’s been handed down for generations. They’re on their own, a couple of junkyard strays who are fierce and feisty and frequently underestimated, even by themselves. But they shouldn’t be. And they’re learning that. I really want this show to continue so that we can see the characters come into their own.

Raquel, Amy, Tyler, and Jake are enjoying their trip to the shore, but Tyler can tell something’s wrong with Raquel, and he’s worried. He’s a good brother. If this gets another season, I hope they tell him the truth before long. For now, Amy tells him that Raquel and Harry broke up because Harry’s a Neo-Nazi racist. Amy always goes all out with her lies.

No Tomorrow Season 1 Episode 3: No Doubt Recap

not103xavevietyra

First up on the apocalysts this week: Shoot a flaming arrow, for Xavier, though you’d think he would have already accomplished that in his Galavant incarnation. And put out a fire, for Evie. Safety first, kids, even in the face of the apocalypse.

Evie enthuses to Kareema about her amazing new boyfriend. and how much he’s opened up her world. Kareema’s weekend wasn’t as exciting as Evie’s, but she did do ‘shrooms and spend the day making giant bubbles. Evie wants to put that on the lists, but shies away from explaining exactly what the apocalysts are about. Kareema wants to meet Xavier, and suggests birthday drinks for Evie the next day.

Deirdre has continued buying chair accessories for Hank as expressions of her love. His chair looks like he’s ready to drive it to Florida, but Hank hasn’t figured out what the gifts are about. Deirdre asks Evie what she should do next, but Evie doesn’t have any helpful advice.

The OA Season 1 Episode 2: New Colossus Recap

theoa102prairiehap

This episode finds Nina in a boarding school for the blind in America. Her father has kept her survival a secret to keep her safe from the Voi. Her maternal aunt checks in on her periodically, while Nina and her father speak on the phone every Sunday. In the opening scene, the blind students are holding white snakes. Nina is comforting her snake, trying to make it more comfortable with being held. She can hear its heart beat.

Nina plays violin for her father during their weekly phone calls. He loves her playing, and would recognize her unique playing style anywhere. They both live for those phone calls. Every week they shed their skins and renew each other. Her father is in hiding from the Voi, and tells her she must be careful as well. She must stop speaking Russian until he tells her it’s safe again. He’s trying to find a safe home for them, but doesn’t know how long it will take. Until then, they both have to hide.

Nina gets called to the Headmistress’s office. Her aunt is there, and tells her that there was a terrible accident. Her father is gone, and Nina needs to leave the school.  Nina insists that her father has gone into hiding to escape the Voi, and he will come for her. She goes to live with the aunt, but without the money Nina’s father was sending for her support, the aunt can’t really afford to take care of a blind child.

Agents of SHIELD Season 4 Episode 10: The Patriot Recap

aos410coulsonmack

Whoops, the Hero of Vienna wasn’t such a hero after all, and the “powered person that people could trust” that Coulson requested for the new SHIELD director doesn’t have powers of his own at all. I’ve been asking for the show to humanize Jeffrey Mace and make him more relatable, but that’s not really what I meant. I don’t know what to make of him at this point. Guess we’re rebuilding the character from the ground up, as the MCU loves to do. Things are never ever what they seem at SHIELD, or anywhere SHIELD adjacent.

Mace is standing at a podium on the steps of a government building, making a speech honoring Daisy for saving people when a bridge collapsed during one of her “undercover” missions. Coulson and Mack mill around the perimeter gossiping about Talbot, Burrows, and Mace’s Very Important MacGuffin of the Week briefcase. Suddenly, a sniper shoots at Mace from a nearby roof top. Mace blocks the shot with the podium. He’s then whisked away by Coulson, Mack and Burrows, while Daisy captures the shooter.
